Pure paradise. The British Virgin Islands is hard to beat when it comes to wanting to escape it all. With only a handful of exquisite resorts and a further handful of private islands to enjoy all to yourself, many of which only accessible by sea or helicopter, the other way to bask in these vibrant islands is sailing them, with picture-postcard anchorages aplenty. The moment you arrive in the BVIs the warm-hearted locals welcome you to their beautiful home, full of breath-taking beaches and the upmost in hospitality, making for an outstanding and unpretentious atmosphere.
The natural beauty of this archipelago is protected by 21 national parks, across land and sea, from rainforest, to bird sanctuaries to swathes of marine life. With so much to see the popular way to experience all these 60 exquisite islands have to offer is on the water, chartering a boat to sail through the palm lined islands and anchor in the crystal-clear waters. The BVIs offers some of the best sailing hotspots in the world, best experienced November through May, but you can be sure to find other activities on offer all year round, from diving to kitesurfing.
The laid-back way of life is never more present than at the world-famous Soggy Dollar Bar, aptly named after the patrons who swim from boat to bar and handover soggy dollar notes in exchange for their legendary Painkiller cocktails. Barely visible on the horizon as you approach by sea thelow-lying island of Anegada is surrounded
by barrier reef and inhabited by flamingos and iguanas and is host to the BVIs biggest event of the year,
Lobster Fest, a culinary scavenger event unique to the island.
